Biography

Timothy Bellavia is an assistant professor in the Division of General & Special Education and the Teacher Residency Program at the Graduate School of Education. He earned his MFA from Pratt Institute and was a fellow of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and he is the author of several children's picture books, including the award-winning “We Are All the Same Inside.” The book’s accompanying doll-making workshop was initially presented on the International Day of Tolerance at the United Nations. Over the past decade Professor Bellavia has collaborated with several non-profit organizations, including Sesame Workshop, Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation and Girl Scouts of America, and he was a recipient of Education Update’s Outstanding Educator of the Year Award in July of 2016. His recent research projects and international presentations include studies on effects and prevention of microaggressions.
