Admission Requirements

Educators and professionals seeking a career change are welcome to apply.

Prospective students must be able to dedicate sufficient time toward their studies, especially in the last year of the program when completing the internship requirement. We are particularly interested in recruiting students who work with underrepresented groups in the New York City metropolitan area.

Academic Requirements

All applicants to the MS program in School Counseling should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution
  • A minimum undergraduate and graduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • A concentration combining a minimum of 12 credits in education and psychology is preferred
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Miller Analogies Test (MAT) are not required for applicants who plan to enroll in our School Counseling program. However, some applicants may choose to submit official GRE, MAT, or nationally-normed equivalent test scores in order to supplement their application materials. It will be another criterion within a candidate's application that each program weighs appropriately. Touro's GRE test code is 2902 and MAT test code is 3346.
  • All School Counseling applicants who wish to graduate with a Bilingual Extension (BLE) in Pupil Personnel Services must submit proof of passing the Bilingual Education Assessment (BEA) language exam or the Target Language Proficiency Verification Form to the BLE office for admission to the BLE program before registering for BLE courses.

You should be prepared to address your career goals and commitment to helping K-12 students thrive in your application essay and admissions interview.
