Biography

George Gross, Ed.D. is an Associate Professor of Education in the MS in Teaching Literacy program at Touro's GSE. He received an Ed.D. degree in Reading from Yeshiva University in 1985. He also has Masters Degrees in reading and in elementary education.  He taught for 37 years in the New York City public school system and in Montessori private schools. During this time, he was an elementary school classroom teacher (grades 4-6), a middle school reading specialist and English teacher and a middle school Reading Coordinator/Staff Developer. As a Reading Coordinator/Staff Developer, his services included placing a large body of students in reading classes, ordering materials, training new teachers, conducting staff workshops on reading strategies and conducting staff professional book club meetings for administrators and teachers.

Dr. Gross has been an adjunct professor at Adelphi University, Hunter College, New York University and Touro College. At all of these colleges, he taught various graduate-level literacy courses and supervised  students in reading clinics and field work experiences. As an adjunct professor at Adelphi University for twenty years, he supervised Master's Degree students, recruited children for the Reading Clinic, conducted seminars and ordered materials. Currently, as an Associate Professor at Touro College, he teaches online courses in Diagnosis and Remediation of Reading Disabilities, Literacy Instruction for Grades 5-12 and Applied Linguistics for Teachers of Literacy. He also supervises students in the Practicum classes as they diagnose and tutor children and write Case Studies related to this experience.

He was the Literacy Department's representative as a member of the TEAC Working Group Committee. Dr. Gross is currently conducting research with the Touro College literacy department on standardized testing and literacy certification.
